Description

A gourmet burger combining ground beef with sautéed mushrooms, Swiss cheese, and caramelized onions. The earthy mushrooms and nutty cheese create a savory, umami-rich dish that balances rich and tangy flavors for a standout sandwich experience.

Ingredients

Scale

Ground beef (80/20) 1 lb (450g)
Burger buns 4 large
Swiss cheese 8 slices (0.5oz each)
Crimini mushrooms 8 oz (225g)
White onion 1 small
Garlic 3 cloves
Butter (unsalted) 2 tbsp
Mayonnaise 2 tbsp
Breadcrumbs 1 tbsp (optional gluten-free)

Instructions

Peel and finely chop mushrooms using a julienne method
Thinly slice onions and garlic
Heat butter in skillet over medium heat (325°F/160°C)
Add onions and garlic, sauté 5 minutes until soft
Transfer to bowl with ground beef, mix gently
Break clumps with hands, stir in breadcrumbs
Shape into 4 equal patties using palms
Press cheese slices firmly onto patties
Heat grill or pan to medium-high heat, cook patties 3-4 minutes per side until browned and cheese melts
Warm buns and assemble with patties and mayonnaise

Notes

Use high-fat beef for juicier results
Press cheese into patty for perfect melting
Crimini mushrooms add depth; substitute with button mushrooms if needed
Braised onions enhance sweetness
Difficulty level: Intermediate
Serve with pickles or a side salad for balance
