Description

Elevate your holiday table with these creamy, nutrient-rich mashed sweet potatoes. By browning the butter until it reaches a deep, toasted aroma, we create a sophisticated nutty flavor profile that perfectly complements the natural sweetness of the potatoes. Infused with fresh sage and a hint of maple syrup, this side dish offers a silky texture and a complex, balanced depth that stands out in any meal. This preparation technique ensures a fluffy finish without any excess moisture, making it a reliable and elegant addition to your menu.

Ingredients

Scale

3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
6 tbsp unsalted grass-fed butter
2 tbsp Grade A dark maple syrup
2 cloves garlic, minced finely
1/2 tsp freshly ground cinnamon
1 tbsp fresh sage, finely chopped
Sea salt to taste
1/4 tsp freshly cracked black pepper

Instructions

Place cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water.
Add a generous pinch of salt and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat and simmer until fork-tender, about 15 minutes.
Drain thoroughly and return to the warm pot to dry out any residual moisture.
Melt butter in a light-colored saucepan over medium heat, stirring until it turns deep golden brown.
Add garlic and sage, cooking for 30 seconds until fragrant, then remove from heat.
Mash the potatoes until smooth, folding in the brown butter mixture, maple syrup, cinnamon, and black pepper.
Adjust seasoning with sea salt and serve warm.

Notes

Use a potato ricer for an even silkier texture. Ensure the potatoes are completely dry after boiling to prevent a watery mash. If the butter browns too quickly, lower the heat immediately as milk solids burn fast.
